UK and Europe Campaigning
BASCA has partnered with a number of organisations across the UK and Europe to augment its position as the lobbying voice for composers and songwriters.

In the UK, BASCA is one of eight members which make up trade organisation, UK Music. Launched in October 2008, UK Music is the umbrella organisation representing the collective interests of the UK's commercial music industry; from artists, musicians, songwriters and composers, to major and independent record labels, managers, music publishers, studio producers and collecting societies.
As the industry’s unit for public policy and lobbying, public communications and public opinion, research and analysis and industry-relevant education and skills, UK Music is headed up by Feargal Sharkey (CEO) and Andy Heath (Chairman).
BASCA is represented on the UK Music Board by Sarah Rodgers and Patrick Rackow.
The following is a brief outline to the main alliances we have helped to found:
ECSA (the European Composer & Songwriter Alliance)

ECSA (the European Composer & Songwriter Alliance) is a lobbying organisation which speaks on behalf of all European composers and songwriters. It is a platform for communication and debate between European composer federations in order to formulate shared policies and to lobby with one voice for their implementation.
ECSA acts as an umbrella organisation under which the three genre-specific European composer organisations (APCOE, FFACE and ECF) operate. These pillars feed political issues to the board of ECSA and also deal with cultural, educational and social issues affecting composers and songwriters in the industry
ECSA is comprises 39 organisations of composers and songwriters in 29 European countries and represents therefore over 12,000 European music creators. Member countries include; Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Serbia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom.
Under the Executive Chairmanship of Alfons Karabuda the ECSA board includes BASCA members Chris Smith, representing FFACE and David Stoll representing ECF. BASCA CEO Patrick Rackow represents APCOE and also acts as the ECSA Spokesman and sits, ex officio, on the Board.

APCOE (Alliance of Popular Composers of Europe)

APCOE is the pillar under ECSA that deals specifically with issues affecting the composers and songwriters of popular music. There are currently 10 European member countries and 3 observers.
The APCOE Board consists of representatives of five permanent member countries and five elected member representatives:
Permanent Board member countries are France, Germany, Italy, Spain and United Kingdom. Elected Board member countries are currently Austria, Denmark, Finland, Latvia and Sweden

The ECF is the pillar under ECSA that deals specifically with issues affecting the composers of arts and concert music.
The ECF currently comprises 26 European member countries; Austria, Belarus, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Holland, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Macedonia, Norway, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.
The European Composers Forum (ECF) consists of an elected Board of seven members, each coming from different European states. BASCA is represented on the Board by BASCA Director and Classical & Jazz Executive member David Stoll.
FFACE (Federation of Film and Audio-Visual Composers in Europe)

FFACE links together 14 composer organisations representing thousands of film & media music composers creating exciting new scores for the film and audiovisual sector. FFACE was founded in 2005 and is devoted to strengthen the position of film music and its creators in Europe. BASCA is represented on the FFACE Board by BASCA and MCPS Director and member of the Media Executive, Chris Smith.
