Following their success in 2011, The Ivors, in association with the British Music Experience, is delighted to once again be hosting a series of masterclasses in the run up to the 57th Awards on Thursday 17th May 2012.

These exclusive events take place at the British Music Experience at the O2 in Greenwich. Tickets are normally only available to PRS for Music members who are also members of BASCA. However, for a limited time only, these events will be open to all PRS for Music members. Each event is open to 80 members, with each having the opportunity to purchase one ticket for £8.

The Ivors at the British Music Experience
A Master Class with John Rutter CBE

Wednesday 7th March 2012, 7.30pm to 9pm

John RutterJohn Rutter
was presented with The Ivors Classical Music Award in 2007.

He has written large and small-scale choral works, orchestral and instrumental pieces, a piano concerto, two children's operas and music for television. His choral works have been performed many times in Britain and worldwide. His music is published by Oxford University Press, Hinshaw Music Inc. and Collegium Music Publications.

In 1980 he was made an honorary Fellow of Westminster Choir College, Princeton, and in 1988 a Fellow of the Guild of Church Musicians. In 1996 the Archbishop of Canterbury conferred a Lambeth Doctorate of Music upon him in recognition of his contribution to church music. He was awarded a CBE in the 2007 Queen’s New Year Honours List.

A Master Class with George Fenton


Thursday 12th April 2012, 7.30pm to 9pm

George Fenton was made a Fellow of BASCA in 2007.

George FentonHe has written extensively for film and television. His film scores include Gandhi, Groundhog Day and The Madness of King George.  His long term collaboration with director, Ken Loach began in 1994 and includes scores for The Wind that Shakes the Barley, Looking for Eric and Route Irish.  His television work includes The Jewel in the Crown, The History Man and The Monocled Mutineer.

His score for Blue Planet won an Ivor Novello Award, BAFTA and Emmy for Best Television Score and Planet Earth was awarded an Emmy and Classical Brit.

As well as his six Ivor Novello Awards and his many BAFTA's, he has been nominated five times for an Academy Award and twice for a Grammy. He was awarded the Nina Rota prize at Venice and a Lifetime Achievement award by the Royal Television Society. He is a Fellow of The Royal College of Music.


These events are in support of the British Music Experience's charitable mission to advance the education and appreciation of the art, history and science of music in Britain.

The Ivors celebrate, honour and reward excellence in songwriting and composing.  They are presented by BASCA and judged by the writing community and are amongst the most prestigious awards for songwriters and composers.

BASCA in association with PRS for Music presents the 57th Ivor Novello Awards on Thursday 17th May 2012 at London’s Grosvenor House, a JW Marriott Hotel.
