PRSF Commissioning Changes

9 December 2010

After lobbying from Classical and Jazz Executive Chairman, David Bedford, the PRS for Music Foundation (PRSF) have agreed to change the terms of the award which they give for the commissioning of new music.  Before the change PRSF would pay half of the award on commissioning and the other half on performance.  This left some smaller commissioners with a cash flow problem as the composer is usually paid the balance of the fee on delivery of the completed score.  To alleviate this, and for grants of less than £3,000, PRSF will now pay up to 80 percent to the Commissioner  upon the commission being agreed.  BASCA is grateful to PRSF for heeding the concerns of composers and those who commission them and hope that this will help to remove a roadblock in the commissioning process.
