Goliath is doing just fine thanks...

BASCA Songwriters Executive member Phil Pickett has launched a scathing attack in the Financial Times on internet companies who have contributed disproportionately low sums in UK tax. Drawing a parallel between David and Goliath, he writes in a letter to the editor, "Sir, I believe there is a direct correlation between the infinitesimally low tax that the offshore internet behemoths pay into our national coffers - and the devastating loss of earnings, and therefore bona fide tax potential, of UK copyright creators." Spurred into action by Sir George Martin's acceptance speech at the recent BASCA Gold Badge Awards, Phil goes on to say, "Sir George Martin paid overwhelmingly sincere tribute to Britain's songwriters, whom he recognised and correctly identified were the cornerstone of a multibillion-pound business at which we truly excelled internationally and said how important that was, not just in terms of huge exports to the world but also in its rich cultural significance for Brand UK."
