Nitin Sawhney to speak at BASCA event
12 October 2012
In 2012, BASCA (British Academy of Songwriters, Composers and Authors) has been working with Diaspora, the music foundation that supports the wealth of musical talent found throughout the UK’s diverse communities. BASCA’s goal through this outreach programme has been to build stronger relationships with Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) music creators and represent a broader range of musical genres.
In June, BASCA held a focus group to explore the challenges facing today’s BAME music creators and assess how the organisation is perceived by them.
Later this year, BASCA will host a short presentation to illustrate how the organisation can be pivotal to BAME music creators’ progression in the music industry. This will be followed by a talk from British Indian musician, producer and composer, Nitin Sawhney.
This event will be held between 6pm and 8pm on Tuesday 27th November 2012 at The Institute of Contemporary Music Performance. It is free for invited guests from Diaspora and Institute students.
BASCA COO Vick Bain said, “BASCA aims to foster a sense of community amongst British songwriters, lyricists and composers and to encourage the next generation of professional music writers, and through our work with Diaspora, and with the support of The Institute and Nitin, we are pleased to be achieving this in such an exciting way.”
