New BASCA Fellow Speaks Out

13 July 2012

Andrew Lloyd Webber, who became a BASCA Fellow at the Ivors in May this year, has spoken out in the House of Lords and warned the government that its belt-tightening austerity programme is throttling the arts. Lloyd Webber told the House that “Britain is a talent hub that creates production and content that resonates around the world” He went on to say that, “in the cult of austerity Britain, the government is turning its back on one of its most promising and world leading sectors” and that funding for the arts was under “unimaginable strain” putting at risk Britain’s “vast potential” which is being “strangled without any clear funding strategy for its long term future”.
