BASCA Professional Development Programme Module 3

12 April 2012

Following the successful delivery of two modules earlier this year, BASCA is pleased to announce the continuation of our new Professional Business Development Programme for 2012, aimed at supporting Songwriters and Composers to exploit their own business or career development opportunities. The next event is scheduled for the evening of Tuesday 29th May, with the remaining two sessions confirmed for Tuesday 25th September and finally Tuesday November 20th 2012.

All three events are held in the PRS for Music Boardroom (details below). Each is a “stand alone” module (attendance at previous programme sessions not essential); consisting of one intensive 3-hour session, commencing at 6.30pm and ending at 9.30pm.

Those attending receive full detailed handouts to accompany the panel discussion. Guest speakers include professional composers and songwriters working in media sectors and across a wide range of contemporary classical and popular music genres. Details of professional guest panelists for the 3rd module will be made available shortly.

This next event focuses on songwriters and composers that also perform their own work - live in concert, on tour and during festival appearances. For performing artists, bands or ensembles there are new opportunities to directly engage and develop relationships with audiences, fans and media (all platforms) in ways that were beyond imagination only a few years ago. Such opportunities provide the content for the first half of the evening.

Live work not only generates additional income streams for writer/performers from both performances and compositions, but also presents valuable opportunities for sales of merchandise and may lead to mutually beneficial brand partnerships – and there is much to learn from those working in different musical styles or forms.

Practical issues, predictable problems, contractual obligations and key strategic decisions to be made by songwriter/composer performers in relation to all these subjects and more are discussed and analysed during our next evening session.
