BASCA launches new Professional Development Series
1 December 2011
BASCA is pleased to announce the launch of a new Professional Business Development Programme for 2012, aimed at supporting songwriters and composers to exploit their own business or career development opportunities. The first two events are scheduled for the first quarter of next year.
The first half of the first session (to be held on the evening of Tuesday 24th January) focuses on “Songwriter & Composer Self Management”. There are a number of strategic options to choose from in order to develop, direct and manage your own business ventures and projects. Effective decision-making to control career trajectories requires a good knowledge of the full range of business models and potential revenue streams now available – together with a clear understanding of the practical, financial and legal considerations involved.
In the second half, the session addresses a number of issues involved in “Building Your Professional Team”: sourcing, engaging and working with the professional service providers (including agents & agency representation; personal & business management, music publishing, plus legal & accountancy services) that collectively form the professional team around songwriters and composers working in today’s music & media industries.
The following session (delivered on the evening of Tuesday 27th March) looks at the reality of Self-Publishing in 2012. Rights management, administration, protection and exploitation are all discussed in the first half. The second half of the session provides an analysis of key elements in different types of contractual relationships with an increasingly diverse range of music publishing service providers.
Those attending receive fully detailed handouts to accompany the panel discussion. Details of the professional guest panelists will be made available shortly.
Each module consists of one intensive 3-hour session, commencing at 6.30pm and ending at 9.30pm to accommodate the commitments and lifestyles of those taking part.
