British Academy of Songwriters, Composers and Authors

Members

Who are our members?

BASCA represents the interests of approximately 2,000 music writers. Our members range from professional composers and songwriters to those navigating the music industry for the first time. Whether you are fresh out of Music College, composing as a hobby, an emerging songwriter or writing music or lyrics as a profession, BASCA membership supports the important campaigns we carry out on your behalf and in return we offer a range of services and benefits. With subscription rates from as little as £6 a month BASCA membership gives you the security of knowing that at any stage in your career you are represented by the UK's officially recognised composer trade association.

Membership Categories

We have two main categories of membership, dependant on where you are in your musical career.

Member

Members are emerging writers who have recently joined a collection society, such as PRS for Music, BMI or ASCAP. If you are taking your first steps in the profession and have just begun to earn income from your music writing, then this category of membership is for you. Members are entitled to one vote within BASCA's electoral system and at the AGM.

Professional

BASCA's professional membership requires the composer or songwriter to be an `Associate' or `Full' member of PRS for Music or equivalent overseas collection society (please contact PRS for Music directly if you are unsure of your status with them). Your membership adds strength to our lobbying voice & supports the work we do for emerging writers. Professional members are entitled to ten votes within BASCA's electoral system and at the AGM.

On joining BASCA all applicants choose to join one of three genres: Concert, Media or Songwriters which are each represented by their own representative Executive Committee.
