Biography

Jenny Gould trained at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and the London College of Music and Media, and now works freelance as a composer, musical director and vocal coach.

Jenny is currently working on a commission for Opera Brava, a children's opera of Prince Caspian, for which she is composer and lyricist. Also in the early part of 2009 Jenny is Composer/MD for Operahouse Music Projects, devising a new work in South London primary schools. Other work as Composer/Musical Director includes productions with Greenwich Theatre, New End Theatre, Southwark Playhouse and the Young Shakespeare Company. One of her choral pieces, The Church-Floore, was recently accepted by the renowned Elysian Singers. Early last year she was Composer/MD of a new adaptation of Animal Farm at the University of Cumbria, and during the Xmas period she MD'd A Christmas Carol for Chichester Festival Theatre. 

Last summer Jenny collaborated with award-winning children’s writer Roy Apps, adapting his book The Hunt for William Shakespeare into a musical for children, and this is now available for performance, extracts can be heard (and seen!) on at www.jennygould.net. Also over the summer, Jenny's chamber opera The Nightingale and the Rose was produced at The Arcola Theatre, as part of its Grimeborn Festival of new opera and musical theatre writing.

In addition, Jenny has written a number of other works for a variety of instruments and voices. These include Stamp! for solo piano, and Last Song of a Nightingale, a flute and piano piece published by Hunt Edition for the British Flute Society, also available for solo piano. Her Shropshire Lad settings for tenor and String Quartet were premièred by the Solaris Quartet at the Ludlow Festival. 

Jenny is currently working on an album, of children songs, called Songs of Imaginings, which will be available through the website below.
